complete peace of mind...

Before I met the electricians at fuseboxheroes I was having sleepless nights about my electrics.

We'd have light bulbs go every few weeks and my husband would have to change at least one fuse in the board every month. We dealt with it by not really dealing with it but we knew we'd have to get it sorted eventually.

When we returned home from holiday to find the power had gone again it was a real pain. We were tired after the long flight and the last thing my husband wanted to do was rewire a fuse. He found his screw-driver changed the fuse and we crashed into bed. It wasn't till the morning, however, that we landed with a bump.

Both our fridge-freezers had completely defrosted whilst we were on holiday but had now frozen the food again during the night as we'd replaced the fuse. Thankfully the food in the fridge had gone mouldy and we realised what had happened. We had to throw all the food out but I guess we should be grateful that we noticed in time. If we'd eaten any of the frozen food we would probably have been very ill.

We claimed on the household insurance for the lost food but when we explained what had happened our insurer advised us that unless we got the electrics properly inspected, we would not be insured for this type of accident in the future.

My husband had heard about fuseboxheroes from a friend at work and he called them up to ask their advice. They were very friendly and upfront about the best way forward. We arranged an inspection for the following week.

The bad news was that our fusebox was out of date and our lighting circuits were very, very old with no earth wires, so we effectively failed the test. However, fuseboxheroes explained that if they were instructed to carry out the work then we would not have to pay for another test on completion - kind of like how our mechanic works with our MOT.

We recevied an estimate a few days later and decided to get two other quotes for comparison. The first company, (name removed by fuseboxheroes), never showed up or even called us back and the second company, (name removed by fuseboxheroes), took over three weeks to produce the estimate. When it did arrive the estimate was considerably higher so we decided to waste no more time (and light bulbs) and instruct fuseboxheroes to do the work.

The team arrived the following week as arranged and work began. There was less mess than I imagined but they had to lift the carpets and floorboards and make holes in the walls to replace the old wiring. My husband was there to help and we saved some money by filling and making good ourselves although fuseboxheroes have a company of decorators who could do this if required.

The other circuits were inspected and tested and passed as okay, which was a great relief. We now have a brand new consumer unit with simple switches instead of old fuses and all the relevant certificates that we've sent on to our insurance company.

In the eighteen months since we've had the new consumer unit we've only have one time where the electrics have tripped. That was when I was cutting the grass with my hover mower and ran over the flex. A bit of a fright but all I had to do was unplug the mower and reset the switch and power was restored to the rest of the house. God knows what would have happened with our old fusebox but that's not my worry any more.

I'm very glad we called in fuseboxheroes and I'd fully recommend them if you need a new consumer unit.
